Spring Training

Written by Josh Smith

The off-season has been a long and winding road. But tomorrow the first stages of the 2014 season will begin to play out as Spring Training starts. But as many of us woke this morning and looked outside our windows we saw a lingering side effect of winter: 2-4 inches of snow on the ground. This could effect our plans for tomorrow evening. If the weather is fair tomorrow then our first Spring Training session will proceed as planned. The latest snowfall will hopefully be the last of the season. Tomorrow's forecast is pleasant. 60 degrees, partly cloudy, and only 10% chance of precipitation.

The only real turbulence we've experienced so far this year is the amount of committed teams. It's odd but there are no teams from last year that remain. Maroon Squad, Holy Balls, Welfare Warriors, and Pink Penguins are gone. Terrorhawks and Beaver Fever consolidated to form the Green Bears. We seemed to find our balance of 10 teams in the wake of the Winter Meeting but the Maroon Squad failed to register for the season, leaving us with 9 teams. We searched for a replacement team but one could not be found. Too much time had been wasted with the assumption that the Squad would return. So a decision was made. Jeremy Litton was asked to pull the Fat Bastards out of the season so that we could have an even amount of teams. Litton agreed and has returned to his position as media director for the league. So the final amount of teams participating this season is 8. Every team will make the playoffs.

The Wiffle Ballers have been moved to the top of the River City Division. Stephanie Sadler agreed to the mood despite being bummed out about not playing BagTag as much. They will still have their chance to play them, however. Teams will have a 20-game schedule in which they play each opponent in their division 4 times and teams in the other division twice. There is another perk to having just 8 teams. The schedule was much simpler to make (you can SEE IT now). And there will be no 5:30 games. Games will now be at 6:00 and 7:00, making for a much simpler evening.
