Jacob Fischer Hopes To Make Big "Splash" In 2nd Half of HWL Season
Written by Josh Smith
As we've reached the halfway point in the season things continue to get interesting within the league. Team rivalries are really starting to develop and return to divisional play in a couple of weeks. Josh Smith, Greg Sowards, and Patrick Rayl had the first team meeting to determine who will be representing the league in the NWLA tournament. A close 2-1 All-Star Game determined that Jewel City will have the home field advantage in the championship later this summer. But the lesser known piece of news is the appearance of Jacob "Fisch" Fischer to the Honey Badgers. His joining the team late in the season was approved unanimously by the team captains of the league (which also serve as the League Rules Committee) allowing him to play with the team the rest of the season and in the playoffs. Fisch has had some pitching experience as this video demonstrates. He piched not only in high school but a year at Bethany College as well. Fisch has been practicing for weeks in preparation for joining his team in the second half of the regular season. He attended the All-Star Game this week to observe and to use the field to practice his pitching after the game was over. His pitches were mostly low but that is probably due to the use of a large trash can for a strikezone that he used at college. His pitching speed rivals that of McClanahan and Kappra so he will be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses. Here's a video of him practicing after the All-Star Game. This guy will no doubt do some damage this season: either bodily or to batting averages (perhaps both).
