Team Tuesdays: Sit On My Base

Written by Josh Smith

Their team name says it all. Their primary focus is on having fun but they just happen to be very good. Sit On My Base are a rare breed in the fact they really just go with the flow. Back in February at the Winter Meeting, Kevin Chattin and Andrew Westcott showed up without a team name. At one point in the middle of a rules discussion, Chattin came out with it, "Sit On My Base...that's what our team name will be." It was an instant favorite name among many of the people present at the meeting. Their popularity has only strengthened over time as they have a real charm and fun-loving demeanor that makes any series they play a fun one.

The team has reigned over the Jewel City division seemingly since the beginning. They have been ranked as high as #17 in the country and have stayed in the national rankings for 8 solid weeks. They are currently on a 6-game winning streak and have fought hard to keep the franchise together. Chattin struggled early on in the season to field a full roster. He had two players that paid and registered but simply did not show, those two players were replaced by Brad Washburn and Scott Westcott. Washburn is sometimes a little tipsy while on the field but still manages to be one of the best fielders in the league. Scott Westcott has shown he has some true ability on the mound and both newer players have definitely hit the ball well. However, the team's breakout player is Jeremy Ray. Ray is a contender for Cy Wiffle, Rookie of the Year, Golden Slugger, and Silver Slugger. He has been making batters look silly all season and was one of the primary picks for the NWLA Tournament team. Also making the NWLA Tournament team is Andrew Westcott. Andrew is arguably the best hitter on the team (7 HRs and 15 RBIs) and regularly is leading the charge on offense. The team's captain, Kevin Chattin, is no slouch at the plate either hitting .306 with 3 HRs. The team truly has no weak link and that's why they are so hard to beat. Sit On My Base are a favorite to advance to the league championship once the playoffs start July 8th.
