Power RAYnkings: Week 7

RAYNKINGS.png

With the final week of interleague play coming to a close, teams are making strides for divisional supremacy. Breaking Balls and SOMB are holding strong onto their divisions and could clinch them by next week. Chicken and Wiffles, Black Sheep, and the Asthmatics and making a push to slow these top two teams down.

Black Sheep Wiffle vs Wifflin Dixie

This match up I think is a scary one for Black Sheep. Greg and Mikey don't offer a lot of speed when it comes to pitching and Black Sheep takes advantage of that. Other than Steven, Black Sheep don't offer any speed either. Big Mike will take advantage of that as well. I can see one game going into the 20s on both sides, and the other being a quick one that is if they let Steven pitch (if he finds the zone). Sowards, Saxton, and Southall need to step up and help take the load of Big Mike if they hope to split this series. Hate to count out a team that has overcome so much this year but...

Plain White Tees vs Huntington Wifflers

This could be a game of 2-on-2 before everything is said and done. Attendance has been the major downfall for these two franchises. PWT need to win the Paul Martin Award as a team because they go in with nothing to lose and have fun the entire time. Andy needs help and help fast! Rumor is that they have a new player joining the ranks. The Wifflers gave SOMB a great scare last week with newcomer Wes Larson hitting a 2 run blast in the bottom of the 5th off Jeremy Ray to send it to extras! If this team could just be there every week, they would be serious contenders! Sturgil is getting better at pitching and they added the extra bat of Larson which will be a major reason the River City Division needs to not over look this team anymore! The big question for the Wifflers is where is their team captain, Bradley Burck?

SOMB vs Asthmatics

SOMB got a reality check last week. They left a lot on base, their strikeouts are rising, and hitting is almost non-existent. When they are on they are red hot! But if they struggle out of the gate it takes a while for them to get it together. They had another scare of the season having to go to extras against the Wifflers (an inconsistent but good team), but they turned it on in the 6th inning. They need to find their hitting early against a really good Asthmatics team. Scotty Westcott had a tough outing last time but needs to shake that off and head into this week with a statement to make. Rayl finally popped his homerun cherry last week! The Asthmatics need to make all the plays, all the pitches, and get all the hits they need to take down this team. With Josiah absent last week, Sumayia stepped in and pitched a really good game, for the win! Veronica Stanley and Jonathan Maxwell will need to continue placing hits and getting on base for Hesson and Chapman to bring in if they want to get any leads. They also need to frustrate both Ray and Westcott with selectiveness early so they can get the pitches they want. Their main Achilles heel is still the walks! That is the main difference in this match up.

Chicken and Wiffles vs Breaking Balls

Last week, C&W looked like something you would see on football follies. Dropping balls, falling all over the place, just one big hot mess. That cost them the first game, but they got it together enough to split the series. They need to avoid making mistakes against a good Breaking Balls team. Fischer is getting better and faster, and Smith was just dealt a bad hand with fielding mistakes from his team. They need to find their hitting quick against McClanahan. We all know who Drew McClanahan, Ryan Pritt, and Matt Gordon are but Jeff Rider is also having a really good year! He is one of the leading candidates for most improved player and is hitting well this year. If Drew would focus more on pitching instead of 'baiting all the time, his arm wouldn't be too sore come Tuesdays. Both of these games will come down to the final inning if Breaking Balls can close it out.
