Team Tuesdays: Saved By The Balls
Hello Wifflenuts! Welcome to the fourth installment of Team Tuesday. This week I will be breaking down the powerful Saved By the Balls team captained by Andrew Westcott. This jump right in. Andrew really came prepared for the draft with scouting reports, phone calls to possible draft picks and focus on who he wanted to see dawn that bitching jersey! (Which doubled as the NWLA regional qualifier tournament jersey) Lets break down his roster.
Let’s start with the main man man himself, Andrew Westcott. One of the most feared hitters in Huntington Wiffle League history. He is a little bit of a triple threat. He is a great fielder and doesn’t pitch too shabby either. He’s a very smart player, who has a winning history in our league. Years with the powerhouse Sit On My Base has taught him how to win. That experience helped him in the draft and on the field.
Tyler Roush was the first pick for Andrew. Tyler coming from the Mothmen team that is a proven winner and powerhouse. Tyler has quickly become the MOST feared hitter in the league. Over the last few tournaments his walks per game have sky rocketed. It comes with being respected as the best hitter in the league. Very frustrating for Tyler, he has made no secret that he HATES being walked intentionally. Tyler has also one of the best set of hands in the field. The 4th overall pick was saying a lot going in to the season. At this point, Tyler could have been and going forward, a solid #1 pick.
Scott Westcott. Andrew’s brother and decent wiffleballer. At this point in the season I think Scott has been to one tournament. That’s a high pick to use on someone who hasn’t been able to play very much this season, but who knows that at the time of the draft unless that player has specified. Scott has wiffleball experience, which helps more than you would think. Scott a decent hitter and fielder, I find it scary to think if Andrew had used that pick on someone who had been more available, would this team be challenging some of the greats of league history. Taking nothing away from Scott’s talent, good player! His availability is his downfall this year.
Jacob Smith. Jacob just adds to the talented depth of Saved by the Balls. All-around player. Good hitter and fielder. He has delivered this season and shown why he was picked above guys who had more experience than him.
Wyatt Zuspan. Wyatt is a Mothman and a steal at 17th pick. He plays the field with high energy and zero re guard for his body. His bat isn’t anything to take lightly. At ANY time Wyatt can take a pitcher from ahead in the count to whiplash watching how fast their pitch just let the field. Great pick up for Andrew.
Justin Fairman. A name any player who has played in this league, should know. Justin, a great hitter has a signature style of batting. Only using one had to bat has really paid off for Justin. He is known for his ability to hit for power. His experience is an added plus as well. Coming from Sit on my Base, he knows how to win. Fielding isn’t something that he can’t do, he has proven himself of that end of it as well. Justin was pegged as a captain coming into the season. Days before the draft a new job forced him into dropping that role and entering the draft as a reserve. That new job and other obligations have kept him from the field this year. Personally hoping to see this guy on a wiffleball field soon, one of this writers favorite people to talk smack with.
Matt Schaefer. I am unable to tell you anything about this guy. To my knowledge he has been a no show up to this point. Unlike Justin Fairman, I know nothing about his previous history and experience with wiffleball. This team has proven that doing your homework and preparing to win championships start on draft night. They have meshed well and won two on the three tournaments thus far. It’s going to be very hard for other teams to catch up on the overall season championship. With one, possible two tournaments left this team has time to cement it’s spot in history as one of the most well put together teams. As always thanks for reading. On deck: Thunder Ducks
