Power RAYnkings: Week 2

After the first weekend of games it is much clearer on who will be contenders or pretenders. Sit On My Base are the clear favorites to walk away with their division title. But things look much more challenging for the Mothmen with their first loss in the league since they first played back in 2016. The Asthmatics are out to prove they need to be in the conversation on walking out with the title. With the good there is the bad. One thing we feared was a team falling apart at the beginning and scraping together players just to play. Thunderducks had a lot of promise of not only being someone to ruin a teams day in the playoffs, but contenders with SOMB for the division crown. Only having two players all day, Greg and Jamar did their best to try to keep up with the rest of the pack. Will the other players show up? They need to in order for this franchise to get its team back on track. Now for the much anticipated first Raynkings of the year.

#6 Thunder Ducks

As I was stating before, this team is sending out an early SOS for the rest of the team to show up for help. Patrick Horton and Josh Blair will add the much needed help for Greg. Both can pitch, bat, and field which will increase this teams ability to win. If it continues, I foresee the whipping team of 2017.

#5 OD Bangerz

The fall for this team clearly comes from beating a 2 man squad easily to losing badly to a top competitor in the Asthmatics. What didn’t help for the Bangers was that Rick and Ronnie were not there to add some aid relief. But watching wiffleball for 4 years now its very clear that this is a young mans game. OD Bangers are the oldest group collectively playing this year. Having the gas for 4 games a weekend may be their downfall. But with most players not having played the last year or so, this may be the case of just shaking the rust off.

#4 Top Flight

Being a bunch of new players everyone saw them as an easy win. Just ask SOMB how easy of a win it was against this up and coming franchise. Taking the powerhouse all 5 innings and losing 2-1 showing that even though they were new don’t take them lightly. They had on 3 players in the first doubleheader but held their own. Eli ended up showing very good promise as a medium style pitcher with great movement on the ball. The second doubleheader a 4th member showed up and was diving all over the place and over fences to make a play. Shawn is already showing the he is becoming a great defensive player. Lets see if this squad will continue its rise in the Raynkings.

#3 Mothmen

Sure they can score and play defense, but they need more than just Brice Clark on the mound this year. That right now is the Anthonys heel of this team. Having their actual members on this squad I can see them back on top real soon. But who will step up as the strong #2 pitcher? Kris Clark and Tyler Roush threw their hats in the ring but no real results. They need to practice and step up their game in order to strike the fear back in the teams in the league.

#2 Asthmatics

Beating a rusty OD Banger team isn’t why this team should be feared, splitting a series between the Mothmen is why this team should see itself in the championship. Paul is no stranger on putting together strong teams with strong supporting casts. In 2014 he added Jacob Fischer to the team halfway through the season which made them an unstoppable 1-2 punch and go on to win the championship that year. In 2015 he added Josiah to the mix and again had a strong 1-2 punch but didn’t make a run at the championship that year. He played only one game in 2016 to help SOMB with their first league championship. In 2017 everyone was thrown a curveball on creating teams with the leagues first ever draft. Even though he had Josiah and added Jacob Dunkle, they Couldn’t outlast Saved by the Balls or Thunderducks for a run at the championship. Coming back to a season format for 2018 Paul has done it once again. He has found his 1-2 punch in Cody Brown. Coming into his first season he has already thrown a no hitter, even if he walked in a couple runs #nextStevenAdkins, and is proving to be a threat at the plate as well. With Jacob Dunkle doing what he does best, playing great defense and hitting homeruns, this team is shaping up to be the team of nightmares. Sam Garton being the only pitcher who lost Saturday, may need to stick with being a hitter.

#1 Sit On My Base

This is a shaky #1 choice but with being the only undefeated team in the league they are going to stay here at the top. With the most shaky starts of the top 3, they managed to squeak out a win against a brand new opponent in Top Flight. But after that first game it was all up hill. Mercy ruling the next three games and everyone who played that day got a W in pitching. But most notably Scott Westcott threw a No No in one of his rare appearances as pitcher. The only player who didn’t show up was the best defensive player the league has ever seen, Brian Ball. Expect him to be there for much needed help as SOMBs schedule only gets harder. But another reason why this team sits at #1 is they all can pitch and hit. With no one hitting below .500, and with 3 pitchers in the top 4 in ERA it is safe to say SOMB has come to play. But will they remain undefeated with back to back series against the Asthmatics and the Mothmen?

After April 28th, we will not have an undefeated team
