What To Expect: 2018 All-Star Game
2018 is going to be a great year for HWL! We have decided to bring back the All-Star game! In my two years with HWL, I have never had the opportunity to experience an All-Star game and now I get to put it together! Along with the All-Star game I have three skills challenges I want to incorporate before the game. They are: Pitcher’s TicTacToe, Team Relay, and infamous Homerun Derby!
Pitcher’s Tic-Tac-Toe
Each team will select a pitcher to represent them during this event. The strike zone will be split into 9 different sections. Pitchers will have to hit each section and the one who hits all 9 sections in the least amount of pitches wins.
Team Relay
So each division will select 4 players to represent them for this event. Each team will have a pitcher, fielder, hitter, and baserunner. So the pitcher will start the relay off by trying to hit the strike zone from second base. Once the strike zone has been hit, the fielder will be given a pop-fly to catch, but the fielder must catch it cleanly behind his back. Once the pop fly has been caught, the hitter must hit a home-run from the opposite side of the plate. This means if you are right-handed hitter, you must bat left-handed or if you are a left handed hitter, you must bat right-handed. Once the hitter hits a home run, the runner has to touch them all. The runner must touch them all as quickly as they can. But the runner can’t take off until the home run ball has cleared the fence. If runner takes off early, a 5 second penalty will be added to the team’s time. The winning division of the team relay gets home-field advantage in the ASG.
Home Run Derby
Each team will select one slugger to represent them during the home run derby. There will be a total of 2 rounds. In the first round, each hitter will be given 5 outs. An out occurs when a player swings and misses, hits a fould ball, or makes contact that doesn’t produce a home run. If you watch a pitch go bye and do not swing, it does not count as anything. The top half of the first round advance to the second round. In the second round, each hitter will be given 8 outs. Most home runs in this round win. Previous HR totals from the first round do not carry over.
All Star Game
Each division will have 6 players represent them during this game. 3 players will be voted in to the game by the captains and committee members. The next 3 players will be decided by popular vote via a poll on the HWL website. The top 3 vote totals get into the game. The winning division of the ASG will get home field advantage in the HWL championship series.
Fun Star Game
I don't know much about what to expect from this. Josh Smith, Andrew Westcott, and Anthony Stidham are planning a game for everyone else in attendance who didn't make the cut for the all-star game. It's hard to say what kind of crazy stuff they have planned for this. Josh keeps talking about a slip-and-slide. God help us...
